I was reading on a Japanese site about how if you start with Squirtle, then when you get the upgraded Pokedex, Raikou’ll run around Kanto (like in Gold/Silver in Johto). Likewise pick Charmander for Suicune and pick Bulbasaur for Entei. Neat!
