The Munchlax course for Pokemon Dash is coming to Japan on the 16th.
I haven’t yet tried recovering the full update.

Emerald and F/L are all I ever wanted, really… but I’m just not feeling the magic anymore. Call me crazy, but I don’t think I’m the only one who just can’t get excited over Dash. I want to, but I’m just not feeling it anymore.
I’m thinking Pokemon itself needs to either evolve or retire. Better to quit while you’re ahead than to drag it out aimlessly, forever, until no one cares… like the Mega Man games.
Well, anyway, Mr. Chris… you’re still the #1 Pokemon site in my book. Even if I stop playing I’ll probably continue to check up on your site every week. Heh. You’re just a cool guy like that.
Say hi to Mel for me, I guess. Take care, dude.

Now all the pokemon sprites pages are the same!

Saying that Pokemon should be retired because of Pokemon Dash is ridiculous. It’s not even a “core” game - just a spinoff. Not even made by GameFreak.
It’s equivalent to say, if someone in the ’90s suggested that they retire Mario after “Mario is Missing” or something. It’s silly.
So yeah - of course you can’t get excited about it. It’s not a Pokemon RPG. Just a quirky and somewhat dissapointing racing game with some Pokemon characters. That doesn’t mean that Pokemon should be retired.
Especially when you say that “Pokemon should evolve”. If I’m not mistaken, Pokemon racing has never been done before in any of the games - so that IS something new. An “evolution” if you will . . . Not a good or interesting one because Pokemon Dash seems obviously half-done.

You guys CAN’T say that Pokemon Dash isn’t exciting for sure before you haven’t played it. I also thought it won’t be a great game until I bought and played it. It is fun and it is challenging. The only things that are not that great are the graphics and that the game is tiring you pretty fast(not because it’s boring but because your hand is getting tired very fast…especially when you’re not resting your hands on a table or something else while playing)
So give Dash a chance and at least try it out.
BTW…Pokemon PROBABLY IS going to be evolving some time this year with the new GameCube game and Pearl/Diamond on the DS. Therefore there is NO reason for giving up Pokemon!

I was hoping they’d show a sprite image of Munchlax, but all they showed was a Dash drawing of him with balloons attached.
Makes you wonder if Diamond/Pearl will use sprites for the Pokemon or instead use 3D character models like seen in Dash.

Actually, Afriscot, if you look close enough (helps to see it in motion, though) you’ll see that the 3D-ish Pokemon in Dash are really just pre-rendered sprites. Only the Pikachu that shows up on the title screen and after you finish a cup is truely 3D.

I was hoping to see the sprite that Afriscot suggests, myself. It could be used to draw a GBA-style sprite for Munchlax.

Now, I must say, Pokémon games have started to interest me less and less. I loved Ruby and Sapphire, and FireRed and LeafGreen were great also - Emerald was a little of the same (yeah, it got new stuff. But.. Still..). I don’t say Pokémon should retire - but something new would be cool.
Actually, some days ago I was talking to Filb, and said, that some kind of Celshaded Pokémon game would be cool, in my opinion. Something new, instead of the old things. Afterall, the graphics seen in Advanced generation, is just “better version” than Green/Red. (prepares for flaming)
Actually, I’ve got Dash - long time ago. Short after release (a week or so I think). I haven’t completed it yet simply because of one thing - it’s so boring to me. A racing game of this kind, simply isn’t fun to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love things like F-Zero and Mario Kart, but this. It seems to be concentrated on cuteness over ANYTHING.
Anyway, I look forward to Pokémon GC - although the reuse of the graphics-engine from Colosseum annoys me (read: suggestion of celshading above). Pearl/Dash will probably be cool - they’ve promised us many new things. But I really hope some kind of “new touch”. I think Pokémon needs this, to stay alive.

Kingyo: How did Filb response? :O The reason I’m asking is that I brought up the idea of cel shading in Filb’s chat a long time ago(i believe even before the release of colosseum) and he didn’t like that idea.
IMO cel-shading would be really cool. In some Pokemon Movies there actually are cel-shading Pokemon(like Suicune, jumping off a huge rock in Pokemon 4 or various Pokemon(Arbok, Geodude, Rhyhorn and others) in Pokemon 7). Of course in an Video Game they wouldn’t have a resolution as high as in the movies but still I think it would look good.
By Animelee on Jan. 10th, 2005 at 4:52 AM
Yeah, the way they do cel-shading in Pokémon is… amazing! If they could just make cel-shaded models for all 387+ for a future game on Nintendo’s next console (Revolution?), instead of re-using HAL Labs’ and Genius Sonority’s models, I’m sure no one would complain that so-and-so’s head is diamond shaped, when it should be round, etc.
Besides, when you’re making 3D human characters from 2D Japanese animation-styled drawings, they can look a little weird. If they stuck to cel-shading, like in the movies, then the console games would actually represent the styles used in the games and TV show, thus making them more “familiar”.

nYoo - Well… After my idea was presented, he replied with a “:P” smiley… Hehe..
I still say - something needs to be done in order to keep everyone at Pokémon - maybe new ideas would even bring new people to Pokémon. As I said, they’ve stuck with that graphics in the GB games ever since the first game. I would like to see some graphics like for example Zelda: Minish Cap, and so on. Britghter and more detailed graphics.
Now, I’m from Denmark where they skipped around 3 seasons of the Animé, so talking about that with me is quite unfamiliar - although I think I’ve seen a picture of it somewhere.
Anyway, I hope Pearl/Diamond will bring a new graphics style. Not too crazy about 3D models in those games though. I’d probably like them to stick with sprites.

Kingyo, I could not have said it better myself. I feel the same way you do. Something needs to change or we’ll all just get sick of it eventually - that is inevitable. If Mario hadn’t changed so much between Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World amd Super Mario 64, chances are that today Mario would be long forgotten and no one would really care about playing new Mario games. It’s not just Pokemon, people, it’s the nature of the world and of free market economics! If you can’t adapt to the changing environment, you’re going to get replaced sooner or later, eh?
Anyway, I don’t want Pokemon to die out; I want it to grow and mature into a gaming franchise that I can still play in 2 more years and not be totally sick of. Perhaps some people love doing the same things over and over forever, but I’d wager the majority don’t. So, when I see Dash, I’m not excited, but I’m not displeased, either. When I hear about the 3 new “core” Pokemon games that’re in developement, though, I really don’t expect much at all. I take one look at R/S and Colosseum and I’m displeased. You can’t say I think the older Pokemon games are better because of nostalgia, either, because I play them all at the same time.
And hey, don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing terribly wrong with any of the recent games (Eh, Colosseum…) I’m just disappointed in the developers for taking something with true, unlimited potential… and making games that after a play-through just seem so half-baked.
Sorry for rambling on. Brain fart.

theres a english emerald out?
anyway i say ds is a third rate game sure yeah certain ppl like racing games also yes something new would be nice but we cant forget the rpgs they are pokemons heritage
yeah I have noticed it a couple days ago, also viewing it with a machine translation but I didn’t really understand what it excactly is. I thought it’s something you get after beating the game or so and forgot about it again. o.op
I’d really like to get that course. :S
Too bad saves of DS games can’t be dumped yet(?)…it would give people not living in japan atleast a little chance of getting bonus stuff for NDS games.
