Training from Shimoda to Shizuoka to Imari

That’s cool. If I knew a little more about Japanese places, it would probably seem more clear to me, but it is cool.

Meh, I’ve been telling people that basicly for months. Maby now that a main site is stateing it people will listen.

After reading this list, only one word comes to mind: beautiful.

This is far better than any of the crappy altered map images offered so far. I was in the Shizuoka/Tokyo area last year, so it’s neat to find out that I visited some cool Pokemon places =P

Some of the things you found out, like the connection with Mirage Island and the reef in Spring, is simply amazing.

In serebii.net’s forums, there is a topic about this very subject. In fact, people posted a variety of maps (mostly the “crappy altered map image” kind, as AninyMouse said). But one post showed each region next to it’s real-life counterpart. You can easily tell that Hoenn is really Kyushu, rotated 90 degrees. And to boot, someone else also had a pic of the official Pokemon world map, with all the regions, islands and everything else in their place. As it turns out, Hoenn is south-west of Johto, not south-south-east of Kanto, beyound the Orange Islands (yes, the official map does include them). See for yourself:

I just like how they decided to take the local areas and use them. It’s sort of like being there in person… almost.

So, I’m thinking that they’ll use Hokkaido or Shikoko for Diamond/Pearl.

Orre isn’t based on Japan, the game developers were obviously being creative and non-GBA Pokemon like. :P

But I think all this information is pretty cool. I’d like to see it a little more in depth though, like explaining WHY they are counterparts. > _>

Oh, cool. I knew that Kanto/Johto corresponded to real places, but I was never clear on where Hoenn was exactly. I guess the anime kind of messed it up in some ways… I don’t know how large the Kanto area really is in Japan, but I’ve read that Japan itself is about the size of California… so it shouldn’t have taken Satoshi as long as it did for him to collect all the badges, haha.

Orre is Arizona; Phenac is Phoenix. This was confimed by the Genius Sonority staff in an interview a while back. At least, that’s what inspired them. It’s quite possible that the region might be relocated closer to Japan.

Hmm… Perhaps if they run out of areas in Japan to use, they’ll move on to Sakhalin.

But they won’t run out soon; looking at a map of Japan, they’ll be good for another three generations.

Just glad to show the official map around. It shuts up those occasional “my map is accurate because it’s based on the anime” sort of people.

In Pokemon I think the whole world is Japan. So in this case Japan is waaay bigger than Calfornia.

Err, the photo you linked to is from the anime. Or at least is linked to. That’s the title of the 7th movie at the bottom of the poster. In fact, the upper part of the poster is the 7th movie poster.

As far as I am concerned, Shikoku is already somewhat in Johto - at least, half of it.

That leaves Hokkaido, which is rather cold and the complete opposite of almost-tropical Hoenn.

Hokkaido would be fun. It’s an island like Hoenn, it’s mountainous, should be easy to put 10+ cities in it, a new environment (snowy), and depending on the 2 region idea, could invariably lead to another region by ship.

Just wondering, but what regional map is in the lower Bar of that movie poster picture? The part closest to the bottom where there’s alot of text covering a zoomed in region

And that makes it less real/accurate/official… how? The anime series is based upon the game, the game and anime are both produced by The Pokemon Company, and both are counted as official installments of the entire franchise. Just because it’s from the series don’t make it any less official or accurate. I highly doubt that the people in charge of the anime just decided to place Hoenn wherever they wanted. It’s more likely that there as at least some discussion between both sides as to the structure of the pokemon world layout.

Besids, I haven’t seen any game-specific maps published by Nintendo/Gamefreak/Pokemon Company/whoever that show us the regions, have you? Until they do, this map is just as good as anything.

You know, it’s times like these where I get really impatient waiting for the next games to come out.

Anyway, the way I see it, there are only three locations left in Japan for new regions:

1. Shikoku and the nearby portion of Honshū

2. the area of Honshū north of the Kanto district

3. Hokkaido

But it’s anyone’s guess where they’ll go after that, or even if the Pokémon games will go into a seventh generation.

Maybe in the future, they’ll just make areas up like they did with Orre in Colusseum. Take a little New York City, mix in some Africa for some jungles and deserts, throw a dash of Northern Canada for some winterscape… that sort of thing.

Orre is supposed to be in lower Hoenn right?

Thinking about it. I think that Orre is between Hoenn and Johto (more closer to Hoenn) because there are hardly any Kanto Pokemon in Orre, and the only ones there are the ones found in Hoenn.

Actually, Unknown, it’s been well-established that Orre is nowhere near Kanto, Johto, or Hoenn.

While it may be that the Pokemon world version of Japan is bigger than the real version of Japan (which would explain the insanely diverse wildlife) that’s not all there is to the world.

Aside from Orre, these other real-life places have been mentioned in Pokemon:

• America (TR’s Meowth and Lt. Surge are both from America)

• China (Appears in entries about Arcanine and Parasect)

• Russia (A Team Rocket member in FR/LG is afraid of being send to Tiksi, Russia, to work in that branch of Team Rocket)

• South America (Mew was discovered there)

So the monster version of Japan isn’t all there is to the Pokemon version of earth. :-p

Oh, and I do want Shikokou for the next region. Hokkaido should be saved for last. Hehe.

Ah, I remember that map well! I stopped in at a Japanese Toys R Us last… July, and they had a huge one up on the wall, overlooking the pokemon merchandise.

Heh, It’s a shame they weren’t selling posters of “the world,” cause I woulda picked one up =)

I am pretty sure they never mentioned South America in the japanese version of Pokemon Movie 1, and also I bet it was not stated in japanese dub that Nyaasu (Meowth) is from America. Lt. Surge might be Vietnam veteran moved into the Pokemon World in japanese version too, and the pointing to the China in some flavour textes can be also in japanese version, but I think Pokemon World is totally made-up place with made-up names originally.

Also, when cartoons and games are brought into USA, they are “Americanized” with english name changes and things like that (as in Digimon the kids were from New York and they had english names…), so it explains everyhting.

In Digimon the kids were not from NY or anywhere in America. There was another Digimon team there. (We find that out in Season 2). Also one of the kids moved to NY (Mimi in Season 2).

Although. Digimon never did make it past season 3 here in the UK…

4 Kids should just keep things like they are. Keep their real names and not make up locations of where people came from.

I’m pretty sure Lt. Surge (Matisse) is an American in the Japanese original, at leaast. He does use much more English in his speach than the average Japanese person would, and his Japanese is pretty simplistic. HE even mixes the two languages a lot =P

I’ve noticed that he uses Japanese and English… “Baby”

Someone told me that he swears in English when he is in a battle with Ash. (I never heard it though).

The movie doesn’t matter, the diaries in the Cinnabar Mansion mention South America.

In the Japanese version, Meowth is indeed still from Hollywood. And Lt. Surge is from America in the original as well.

And the city of Metropolis and Gotham are fictional in comic books, but that doesn’t mean Superman and Batman can’t go to Mexico, or whatever. Having a fictional setting does not mean that all settings within the same universe must be fictional as well. Harry Potter’s been to London, Batman’s been to New York, Dorothy of Oz is originally from Kansas - etc. etc. etc.
