I’ve been working in a potential page to hold character dialogue for Pokemon Colosseum. Interestingly, there’s a lot of dialogue that never made it into Pokemon Colosseum. I’ve picked out parts, most still in Japanese, never translated as they’ve never been used.
It seems that they originally had different Shadow Pokemon plans. Here are e-mails from NETT, with emphasis placed on the game’s unused Japanese text (which I’ve translated into English). Not emphasized text is the game’s used English text.
-
I obtained the hard-to-find SHADOW KECLEON! It’s a trivial thing. Only the person who knows the password of this mail’s title will battle. They’re waiting just before Pyrite Colosseum!
-
WES, I did it! I analyzed the data ROM and managed to extract a partial list of SHADOW POKéMON. For the time being, I’ve identified 29 SHADOW POKéMON. There appear to be more, so I’ll send updates when I find them.

Hi, it’s NETT. I analyzed the SHADOW POKéMON LIST again and discovered six more. The additions are TYRANITAR, MISDREAVUS, SLUGMA, SMEARGLE, ABSOL, and HERACROSS. I’ll send another update if I can find any more.

I’m DASH from PHENAC. I’m just an ordinary citizen who happens to run around the town’s fountain. So what gives you the right to have your POKéMON attack me? You don’t deserve any respect as a trainer. Shame on you!

Hi, it’s NETT. I analyzed the SHADOW POKéMON LIST again and discovered six more. The additions are NOCTOWL, FLAAFFY, HOUNDOOM, SHUCKLE, MILTANK, and DELIBIRD. I’ll be in contact.

It’s BITT in THE UNDER. WES, I caught you on film in an unbelievable scene that’s terrible and shocking. What’s your problem? Why are you attacking people with a SHADOW TOGETIC?
-
Hi, it’s NETT. I analyzed the SHADOW POKéMON LIST some more and discovered the very last one. The last SHADOW POKéMON was TOGETIC! That completes the analysis of the data ROM you provided!

Also mentioned are “HUNTER RETAY”, “MALPES THE RIDDLE-LOVER”, and the “SHADOW GRASS POKéMON KING” who uses Grass Pokemon such as Sunkern and Chimecho. No, don’t say it. Rui already does, as seen in this translation from the unused Japanese dialogue:
Eh!? Chimecho isn’t a Grass Pokémon… It’s a Psychic Pokémon.
Furthermore, there’s a lot of talk about that Shadow Minun and about the “Six Shadow Aipom Siblings” in the unused text.

Interesting…. 12 unused Shadow pokemon…hmm…

I would’ve liked the extra variety in Colosseum… I mean, aside from Teddiursa and Minun, who are basically doubles, and Wobbuffet would’ve been a horrible shadow Pokemon. I would’ve liked the Castform and Kecleon, though!
I guess the Shadow Psyduck would be why Psyduck got changed in Colosseum.

That looks cool. Almost as much unused stuff as the Sonic games. e.g: the level Sea Gate was going to be a real gate.
I wish that they added those pokemon to the final though…

Meh, If they were so lazy to leave that much code in the game from just translations… I wonder if there is a possible chance a AR could unlock the E-reader abilities in the English or even simulate the Japanese requirments to activate the Japanese Bonus Disk download of Serebi.

Meh, cheating is bad.

Of course, you could just look on ebay for people posting their USA bonus discs. I doubt those discs go for much on there.

Again, I stated the Japanese Bonus Disk. There is a difference and I’d also be looking for a Japanese Pokemon Colosseum as well.

He means this one or the other one. One of the two Japanese Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Discs has a Pokémon Channel Demo (the one I have), and the other one has some videos from other Nintendo games like Mario Kart Double Dash. But both discs have the Celebi program on it.

Oh, Serebii… Sorry, my brain wasn’t awake when I posted. I thought you said Jirachi. feels stupid

Filb,
Do you know of any place that is still selling the japanese bonus disk of either version and/or with Jp Colosseum?
By BRP[PATF] on Apr. 28th, 2005 at 4:11 AM
You might want to try someone who can bid on .jp auctions. I saw a few on Yahoo.jp’s Auction site earlier.

It’s still not as bad as all the unused data in Phantasy Star Online Episode III. X.x
Interesting though, the final product was probably the best!!

Anyone who looks into ordering the Japanese Celeby bonus disc, remember that you need a Gamecube able to play Japanese games, and you need a Japanese Colosseum saved game file completely.
I have nothing against using a cheatin device to unlock the Celeby event for personal playing. Using it in battle against another player who has no such means to get Celeby, however, isn’t right.

Mmm…very interesant
By ANinyMouse on Apr. 28th, 2005 at 9:03 PM
Ugh… perhaps even these small additions would have made Colosseum’s RPG enjoyable… It felt so bare! Wispy, like half a game.
But I agree that shadow Wobbuffet wouldn’t make a lot of sense o_@;
By adamgnome on Apr. 28th, 2005 at 9:32 PM
Yeah, I’d imagine most people wouldn’t bother to even purify it… you know because it wouldn’t be able to attack on it’s own and all.
But since I love wobbufetts, I would’ve liked to seen them in the game. XD
But, the changes were probably made to balance out everything, hopefully not because they ran out of time, or rushed. X.x

That Shadow Kecleon would’ve been cool. And on the subject of Celebi, someone should hack the game to see if there’s a secret way to get it without the Bonus Disc then we can put that theory to rest.
By Kingyo on Apr. 29th, 2005 at 1:47 PM
Well, about the Celebi in Colosseum. I remember Meowth346 having extracted some other text from Colosseum. Wasn’t all the Celebi Recieving Program Text actually IN the US Colosseum, translated and all? I remember Light Ball being translated wrong, into Light Bulb. Hehe..
Well, would be interesting to see, if this was also in the Japanese version. Maybe the Celebi Program was once a part of the main game, but they later decided to call it quit about it?
By nYoo on Apr. 30th, 2005 at 12:28 PM
Shadow Xatu would’ve been cool. :(
By Thine Eyes Deception on Apr. 30th, 2005 at 10:46 PM
Feh, ANY extra shadow pokemon would have been good for the game. Because the truth is, the final number of shadow pokemon is way too limited…

No, but I have a Free Loader to play Japanese games on my American Cube. So that should work I think. I just also need to make shure I get a Japanese copy of one of the games to be able to download him.
Hm, interesting. I wonder why these programmers are that lazy not to delete the stuff they are not going to use in the final version :P
